Mommy Makeover

A comprehensive restoration of the breasts and body.

Mommy Makeover - Our Approach

A Mommy Makeover combines breast and body procedures to address the changes left by pregnancy and breastfeeding. Typically combining a tummy tuck with breast augmentation or lift, this single-stage surgery restores your pre-baby body contours.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Multiple body changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight change
  • Deflated or drooping breasts with loose abdominal skin
  • Abdominal muscle separation or stubborn fat after pregnancy
  • No planned future pregnancies and able to plan recovery support

Procedure Quick Facts

AnesthesiaGeneral anesthesia
Estimated Duration5–7 hours
Downtime14–21 days
Return to WorkMost patients return to desk or remote work at two to three weeks. Physically demanding work or roles requiring lifting require six to eight weeks of recovery.

Surgical Technique

A Mommy Makeover is planned as a combination surgery, most often involving some mix of tummy tuck, abdominal muscle repair, liposuction, breast augmentation, breast lift, or augmentation with lift. The exact sequence is planned ahead of time to keep the operation efficient and limit unnecessary repositioning during surgery. Breast surgery is typically performed first, followed by tummy tuck and liposuction. Each part of the procedure is completed with the same attention to detail as it would receive on its own. Total surgery time is kept within safe limits, often no more than six to seven hours, to reduce anesthesia and blood-clot risk.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is usually a good fit once pregnancy and breastfeeding are complete and the body has had time to stabilize. Good candidates often have more than one concern, such as breast volume loss or drooping, loose abdominal skin, muscle separation, or stubborn fat. Stable weight, avoiding nicotine, good overall health, and reliable help at home during early recovery are essential.

Recovery

Mommy makeover recovery is more involved because multiple procedures are combined in one operation. The first week requires significant rest and reliable help with daily activities, including childcare. Short walks begin early to support circulation and reduce blood-clot risk. When a tummy tuck is included, it usually sets the overall recovery timeline, with many patients returning to desk work in two to three weeks. Lifting restrictions, including lifting children, usually last about six weeks. Full activity typically resumes around six to eight weeks.

Initial Rest

Full rest required. Assistance with all daily activities including childcare essential. Light walking from day 1. Drains and compression garments managed.

Transition to Light Activity

Increasing independence. Return to desk work possible at 2–3 weeks. Lifting restrictions strictly enforced. Swelling diminishing.

Progressive Recovery

Light lower body exercise permitted. Abdominal binder transitioned to shapewear. Breast shape improving as implants settle.

Full Recovery

Full activity resumed. Final body contour becomes visible as all swelling resolves. Scars mature over 12–18 months.

Mommy Makeover Risks & Considerations

A Mommy Makeover combines multiple procedures in one operation, which means a longer surgery and a more involved recovery. This modestly increases risks such as DVT, pulmonary embolism, and anesthesia-related complications. Each component also carries its own risks, including wound healing problems, hematoma or seroma, infection, implant-related complications, and contour irregularities. Careful patient selection, safe surgery time limits, blood-clot prevention, and close postoperative monitoring reduce risk.

  • Longer recovery due to combined procedures
  • DVT or pulmonary embolism (blood clots, rare but serious)
  • Wound healing problems
  • Hematoma (blood collection) or seroma (fluid buildup)
  • Implant-related complications
  • Abdominal contour irregularities
  • Infection
  • Anesthesia risks with extended surgical time

Alternatives to Mommy Makeover

Patients with only one area of concern may be better served by a single procedure, such as breast surgery, tummy tuck, or liposuction alone. Staging procedures across separate operations can reduce total anesthesia time and may be safer for some patients. Non-surgical treatments can offer modest improvements for specific concerns but cannot correct loose abdominal skin, muscle separation, or significant breast drooping.
